Just the tonic for young patients

Music and singing could prove the best medicine for young patients at Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital thanks to a special treat.

Teachers Faye Adams and Adam Bolger from Wolverhampton Music Service have agreed to visit the Children’s Ward after being contacted by The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity (RWT Charity).

They will visit the playroom this Friday 20 June, for an hour from 10.30am and entertain children and young people with acoustic instruments and songs.

Lindsey Wagstaff, Community and Events Fundraising Officer for RWT Charity, said: “We wanted to do something special for our patients on the Children’s Ward and help them take their minds off their illness and treatment.

“We’re thrilled that Faye and Adam are coming to visit us on Friday and are sure they will help towards our patients’ recoveries. Thank you, Wolverhampton Music Service, for supporting RWT Charity to make a real difference to children and their families in this way.”

Sarah Tulley, Assistant Head, Wolverhampton Music Service, said Faye and Adam were looking forward to Friday’s visit.

“We know music and singing can really help lift the spirits – whatever your age – and we’re sure patients and their families will enjoy this welcome distraction while in hospital.

“We may discover some singing talent too!”

Wolverhampton Music Service provides high quality tuition and musical opportunities for youngsters from schools across the city, including the chance to perform with its flagship groups, Wolverhampton Youth Orchestra and Wolverhampton Youth Wind Orchestra. Last year, the Service was awarded Wolverhampton’s Team Excellence Award by the Association of Directors of Children’s Services for its efforts to make music more equitable in the city.

The Music Service is proud of its vital role in making music accessible to as many people as possible and in celebrating music as a strength in its wider community. To find out more, please visit www.wolverhamptonmusicservice.org.uk.
