Moog’s “muddy” wonderful fundraiser

Forty one fundraisers from a Wolverhampton aerospace company took on the Spring Wolf Run challenge to show their appreciation for a colleague’s care and treatment at New Cross Hospital.

The team members from Moog Aircraft Group wanted to “give something back” following the lifesaving support given to contractor Loz Sweeney through the Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Team.

And after braving mud, stone cold water and exhaustion, they managed to raise £2,134.92 which has now been handed over to The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

Paul Kingscott, Facilities and Maintenance Manager at Moog, said:

“Jumping off a bridge into a stone cold river before having to swim about 40 metres is one memory that will stay with me from the Wolf Run as that was so tough!

“But we were determined to give something back to the team because the compassion and care shown to Loz who needed lifesaving treatment was out of this world. They have helped him have a life as far as we’re concerned and we will always be grateful.

“We know there are many other patients and their friends and families who feel the same so we decided this was such a worthwhile goal to have in mind as we took on the 10k challenge. Knowing we were raising money so the team can continue to provide care and share expertise was a massive motivator for us all.”

Maxcine Riddell, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Louise Turner, Cancer Care Navigator, said the UGI HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) Team appreciated such a generous donation, along with the positive patient feedback.

They said: “We would like to use the funds raised to benefit as many patients as possible which is in keeping with Moogs’s wishes.

“One way to do this is for the team to attend study days and sessions, wherever they may be held, so our knowledge is continually updated. We can also look at research trials that may be suitable for our patients.”

Amie Rogers, Fundraising and Lead Digital Engagement Officer, added:

“What a fantastic way to say thank you. As Maxcine has said, we will ensure the money is used to benefit as many patients as possible who rely on the Upper GI HPB Team’s care.”
