Young fundraiser’s debut book makes wishes come true
A young fundraiser from Wolverhampton has channelled her creativity into writing and illustrating her very first book to support children receiving cancer treatment at New Cross Hospital.

Eleven-year-old Amelia Smith raised an impressive £6,080 through sales of ‘How Christmas Got Its Sparkle’ – a story celebrating kindness, courage and the power of giving. Every penny raised has been donated by way of gifts to patients attending The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s Oncology Department.
Inspired by her own experiences, Amelia’s book follows Violet, a character who discovers a gift unlike any other, the ability to bring joy and laughter to children who need it most. The story highlights the idea that the greatest gifts are those we give to others.
Amelia’s fundraising began when she was just three years old after spotting a Peppa Pig walking challenge on a poster. Despite living with arthrogryposis, a condition that causes joint and muscle stiffness, she was determined to take part.
Since then, she has raised money for numerous charities every year, always finding new ways to help others.
Her mum, Louise Smith, said: “Amelia is amazing – we’re so proud of her. She’s incredibly kind and always puts others first. Knowing how hard it can be to be in hospital at Christmas, she wanted to spread kindness and make someone else’s day brighter.
Despite her own health challenges, she was determined to do something special for those who need it most and that’s how the idea of writing a Christmas book evolved.”
Louise also thanked friends Earl Edwards, brothers Adam and James Morgan for running both the Wolverhampton and Birmingham half marathons, raising an additional £1,600 to support the cause.
Amie Rogers, Fundraising and Engagement Lead Officer for Your RWTC, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s charity, added: “Amelia’s generosity has brought smiles to so many children. She truly embodies the spirit of Christmas and has made such a difference.”
How Christmas Got Its Sparkle is available now on Amazon.
And Amelia is already planning her next fundraising initiative for Easter.
