Climbing Snowdon in memory of Cejai

Chris Owen, 44, completed the challenge alongside family members and friends to raise funds for the Swan Suite at New Cross Hospital, where his 12-year-old son Cejai was cared for following his death after a severe asthma attack.

Your RWTC, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s charity, supports fundraising for the Swan Suite as well as a £100,000 appeal to create a dedicated, peaceful haven for families of patients receiving end-of-life care at New Cross Hospital.

Cejai, who had lived with asthma throughout his life and had been admitted to hospital on several occasions, died on 9 July 2025.

Remembered as a bright, bubbly and outgoing young boy, Cejai loved sport and gaming.

Chris, a Support Worker at Complesso Healthcare Solutions, said: “Cejai was always happy, there was never a dull moment with him.

“One of the things Cejai wanted to do was climb Snowdon, so after we lost him, I knew it would be the perfect way to honour his memory while raising money for the people who supported us through the hardest days of our lives.”

Chris added: “The climb was really difficult, both physically and emotionally. I’m not the fittest person, but I kept thinking about Cejai and that gave me the strength to keep going. Around 15 of us made it to the summit together, and I know he would have been proud.

“We’ve raised around £1,200, and every penny is for the Swan Suite to help other families who find themselves in the same situation.”

Following Cejai’s death, he remained in the Swan Suite for three-and-a-half weeks while arrangements were made for his post-mortem, giving the family precious time together in a calm and compassionate environment.

Chris said: “The Swan Suite and the staff were incredible. From the moment we arrived with Cejai, they treated us with such kindness and compassion. Stacey Owen, in particular, was amazing. The care and support we received meant everything to us, and we can never thank them enough.”
