Young football team reaches new heights for charity
A group of young footballers and their families have raised more than £1,000 for a dedicated relatives’ room for those whose loved ones are receiving end-of-life care after taking on the challenge of climbing Snowdon.
A total of 26 members of the Wyrley Juniors Under-12s JPL Squad, alongside parents and supporters, completed the climb to the summit of Snowdon in June, raising £1,172.
The team chose to support The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) Charity’s dedicated palliative care relatives’ room, a cause being championed by parent Andrea Campbell-Jackson, Assistant Directorate Manager for Adult Community Services at RWT.
Through sponsorship and fundraising efforts, the team initially raised £672 for the appeal. This was then boosted by an additional £500 donation after one of the parents successfully secured funding through a fundraising support scheme run by their employer, HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS).
Andrea said: “The team wanted to take on a challenge together and support a cause that means a great deal to members of the squad and their families. I am incredibly proud of every one of the players and parents who took part.
“Raising £1,172 for the appeal is a fantastic achievement, and the support we have received from everyone who donated has been amazing.”
Marcus Bagley, Coach of Wyrley Juniors Under-12s said: “As coaches and parents, we are immensely proud of every player who took on the Snowdon challenge. They pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones, supported one another every step of the way, and raised money for two wonderful local charities close to our hearts. They represented our club, their families and themselves brilliantly”
