Patients’ boost skills through bird table project

Patients in the Neuro Occupational Therapy Group at Cannock Chase Hospital have crafted a wooden bird table as part of a therapeutic project designed to develop practical skills and support physical and cognitive wellbeing.

Throughout the programme, participants have worked together to design, build, and assemble the bird table, a project that has not only provided opportunities to practice control and co-ordination but also offered a sense of achievement and teamwork.

Ian Gittings, Senior Therapy Assistant, said:

“This project has been a wonderful way to bring patients together, learn new techniques and build confidence

“Seeing the patients grow in ability and pride as the table took shape has been really inspiring.”

For many, the hands-on nature of the task has made all the difference.

Sid Baun, 78, one of the patients involved, said:

“It has been a great project to be a part of. I have Parkinson’s, so using both hands is really difficult.

“I am really proud of what we have created, and I can’t thank the staff enough.”

Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager for Your RWTC, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust charity, added:

“We’re incredibly grateful to all the patients who took part in this project. Their hard work, positivity and creativity have been brilliant to see.

“Activities like this not only raise spirits, but they also help us raise funds that support therapy and wellbeing activities across the hospital.”

The table was raffled off raising £600, with funds raised going towards future Neuro Occupational Therapy Group projects.
