RWTC FC makes a winning debut

An afternoon of football, fundraising and team spirit saw the newly formed RWTC FC secure an impressive 6-1 victory against a fellow NHS team in their very first fixture.

Your RWTC FC is the dedicated football team for Your RWTC, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s charity, and yesterday marked its first outing.

Grateful patient Robbie Meakin, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last April and is having treatment at New Cross Hospital, is the Founder and Chair of the new side He has already held a host of fundraisers to support Your RWTC.

The match, held at Bilston FC in Queen Street, Bilston, brought together colleagues, supporters and members of the local community.

Robbie said: “I am so proud of the team and it’s great to bring together players from different areas of ‘fame’ in their own rights whilst raising funds and awareness for Your RWTC.

“It’s an honour and pleasure to give back to our NHS heroes that bring life into the world, care for people in need, however minimal, and save lives.  I’m a proud Wulfrunian so I love that I can do my bit to help people in our city.”

Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager for Your RWTC said Robbie’s passion, commitment and hard work had made the event possible.

“From creating the team to organising the fixture, Robbie has provided Your RWTC with a valuable new platform to engage with supporters, raise awareness of the charity’s work and strengthen connections across the community.  We raised over £700 which is amazing and will make a huge difference in helping us go above and beyond what the NHS provides.

“To see the team win their first match 6-1 was amazing, but more importantly, this initiative provides a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the charity and reach new supporters. We are grateful to Bilston FC for hosting us and look forward to seeing RWTC FC continue to grow and achieve great things both on and off the pitch.”

Your RWTC FC’s next match is on Friday 6 November -7.45pm kick off at Wednesfield Community Football Club vs Teachers FC.
