Surprise guest brings joy to young patients

Joy and laughter filled New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton as a special visitor arrived at the children’s department to meet young patients and their families.

Bringing a sprinkle of seasonal magic, Father Christmas made a heartwarming appearance with a sack full of gifts, greeting children, parents and staff with a cheerful “ho, ho, ho!”.

The annual tradition, organised by Your RWTC, the registered charity of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, aims to brighten spirits during the festive season and provide comfort to children spending Christmas in hospital.

Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager, said:

“It’s a pleasure to bring Father Christmas to visit our youngest patients. To see the wonder and excitement in their eyes is truly magical.”

Children eagerly listened for the sound of jingling bells and heavy footsteps as they awaited his grand entrance.

Their anticipation turned to delight as Father Christmas made his way through the department.

Gifts were handed out and families captured memorable photographs.

Charlie Jones, mum to two-year-old Darcy, who is receiving treatment for Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis (SSPE), a rare brain disorder, said:

“It’s a really lovely thing for the hospital to do for all the children – Santa looks so lifelike. Very magical.”
