Wolves Lottery nets a winner for young patients
Treatment rooms for children and young people with cancer and other conditions have been transformed with Disney, space, blossom and animal themes at Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital thanks to a charity partnership with the Wolves Lottery.
Your RWTC, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s charity, was chosen as Wolves Lottery’s charity of the year for the 2025/26 season and has been given £10,000 to support hospital projects.
The rooms on A23 in Paediatrics had plain white walls, with just a bed and chair in them. Now, four have been transformed thanks to the artwork of Mr Murals and are kitted out with smart TV’s and gaming consoles which include two PlayStations.
Three year old Ardeshir Rahman has regular blood transfusions as he suffers from mixed thalassaemia. He was a big fan of the space-themed room complete with astronaut and galaxy images.
Mum Saima Hasan a GP, and dad Tamzidur Rahman, who works in marketing, loved the makeover too.
Saima added: “When children have to spend many hours having treatment, or preparing for treatment, you’re doing your best to try to distract them. The artwork makes such a difference.”
Senior Sister Aimee Hashim said: “This has been lovely for our patients – the rooms just feel so bright and more welcoming.
“Children can be here for the majority of the day having treatment so having a better environment is important. Thank you Wolves Lottery players!”
The rooms’ themes were chosen by young patients and staff, and the new-look rooms help reduce anxiety for children and their families throughout treatment.
Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager, added: “Seeing the transformation of our oncology treatment rooms has been incredibly uplifting.
“This project shows what can be achieved when our community comes together with a shared purpose. The partnership between Wolves Lottery and Your RWTC, along with the talented Mr Murals, has allowed us to create spaces that feel brighter, calmer and far more supportive for our patients.
“This collaboration has made a meaningful and lasting difference for those we care for.”
